PSA: Game Maker 8.x games are broken in Windows 10
« on: August 06, 2016, 08:47:52 AM »
Why does Super Mario Fusion Revival run at sub 60fps speeds when I can run [insert name of latest graphically intensive game here] at unlimited fps on my [insert latest graphics powerhouse card here] in Windows 10?

Answer: Game Maker 8.x uses DirectDraw, a feature of DirectX 7 that is over 14 years old as of this writing. It's since been deprecated starting in Windows 8.x. This means that there will be no efforts by Microsoft to support DirectDraw.

Solution: There is nothing much you can do aside from playing Game Maker 8.x games on a Windows 7 machine. On our end, we need to port over to Game Maker Studio in order for Mario Fusion and Xeno Fighters R to run on modern Windows 10 machines. Yoyo Games stopped supporting legacy Game Maker (GM8.x and below), only focusing on Studio now.

Fusion Gameworks is now an independent game developer. We have moved on from making fangames, and as such, we will no longer provide support for our older fangames.

Are people having trouble running the game at all, or is it just fps performance?

I use Windows 10 but I run MKF  in compatibility mode on Windows 7 and have never have any crashes or noticeable fps drops.

For those experiencing issues, try that.
